Pediatric Acupuncture

Many acupuncture treatments are available for young patients. As with adults, factors such as age of the child, nature of the ailment, and any other existing conditions will play a role in what techniques will be effective, as well as in the length of treatment. Generally speaking, children are often open to acupuncture and enjoy it, and they tend to respond quickly.

Kids' bodies are adaptable and, being young and not yet deeply affected by the stresses of life, show signs of response to acupuncture quickly. Young bodies have fewer blockages and pent-up feelings that have begun to exert stress on their physicality, allowing for quicker recovery and faster relief.

Tools used for pediatric acupuncture may vary from those used on adults with similar ailments. Most of my treatments come from the Japanese style of pediatric acupuncture known as Shonishin.

The tools used for Shonishin are all non-insertive, which means that a needle will not be inserted into the skin, but rather various metal tools will be used to brush or scrape certain areas gently. This activates acupuncture points in a gentle and effective way for children.

For more information regarding pediatric acupuncture, please don't hesitate to email or call. I know how special and important children are, so I am happy to take extra time in person or on the phone to answer specific questions.
